A few weeks ago, my parents came to visit us in Washington. We haven't done much in the city of Seattle yet, so not only was it good to see them, it was also really fun to explore our new home with them.
We started our Seattle day at Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle. Pike Place is a huge, bustling market with fresh seafood, flowers, jams, nuts, spices, homemade goods, and all the delicious things you could ever want. It is pretty touristy, but it also seems like a lot of locals go there to get fresh food as well. It is open every day, so my goal is to figure out where the best (i.e. freshest and cheapest) products are so I can drop in quickly and get what I need from time to time without being stressed by the crowds.
I think we tried 20 different kinds of nuts and jams and honeys and spreads and apples as we walked through the market.
There were so many bouquets of late-autumn flowers and decorative kale, which, to me, looks like giant roses. Isn't that just the prettiest kale you've ever seen?
We ate lunch at Lowell's in the market. Fresh seafood and waterfront views all around.
After the market we went to Seattle Center to see the Space Needle!
On Saturday we went to Snoqualmie Falls. It was a beautiful, sunny day and we took a hike through the woods to the bottom of the falls to get a better view. It was gorgeous!
Mom and I were fascinated by these trees growing out of old tree stumps!
One of my favorite things about Washington woods is the moss-covered trees. Mom says they look like something from a Dr. Seuss book!
The view from the bottom of the hike was even better than the view from the top!
After Snoqualmie Falls we ate lunch at a little crepe shop and then went to Tiger Mountain State Forest for a hike before the sun set. The light was so beautiful!
Check out this fallen tree that we found in the forest! It had to be 100 feet long -I'm not even standing on the end!
On Sunday we ate breakfast at the best restaurant I've found in Tacoma - Art House Cafe. Afterwards we walked through Wright Park and looked at the giant trees and the pretty fall foliage.
Also, the mountain was out ALL WEEKEND so they got to see the beautiful mountain ridges that surround Tacoma and Seattle.
It was such a good weekend full of story-telling, good food, and exploring. Love you, mom & dad! Can't wait to see you soon!
