Franklin Falls

3/15/2018
I'm trying to do a better job of journaling our adventures. So often we have a fun weekend and then the week starts again and I never make it back to the blog to write down what happened. I love looking back through all of these memories, so I am hoping to write more posts in the future.

Last weekend Kyle was busy studying, so my friend Courtney and I decided to do a little exploring. We wanted to hike to Franklin Falls, but the road to the trailhead was closed, adding 5 miles of hiking to the route. We decided to try and take a back-road way to the falls instead.

If you want to do this hike - take 90 to exit 52, and park in the summit west lot (free!). As you exit the parking lot, walk down the road to the left, under the overpass, and down the road until the road curves to the right (if you get to the ski resort, you went too far!). On the left, unless it has just snowed, you should see footprints leading over the snowpack and onto a trail. This is the Wagon Road, and it's not plowed. Just follow the path for about 1 or 1.5 miles, until you see signs for Franklin Falls. It's a little bit slippery heading down to the falls, and we were glad we had our poles and Yaktrax so we didn't fall off the rocks.

The sun came out just as we set out down the trail!

The falls were partly frozen, and some climbers were preparing to climb the ice up to the top!

Such a fun weekend adventure! Of course, we followed up the hike with a trip to Target, because it's our happy place :)
