Highpoint #18: Borah Peak, ID

9/21/2018

State: Idaho
Highpoint: Borah Peak
Elevation: 12662ft

Borah Peak, the highpoint of Idaho, was our biggest highpoint hike yet. We took a road trip from Seattle to Grand Teton National Park at the beginning of September, and this was our second stop after Craters of the Moon National Monument where we camped in a windstorm!

The whole trail is only 4.1 miles but the elevation gain is 5,262 ft! We made it up to "chicken-out-ridge" where the trail gets technical and you really need gear (at least helmets) to safely climb it. The hike was intense and going from sea level to 10,000 feet in 2 days was probably not the best idea - it made the hike up even more difficult. Even though we didn't make it to the top, I'm glad we did this hike - it was beautiful, we got awesome views of Idaho, and we get to add another highpoint to our list!
