Badlands National Park

9/09/2014

The first stop on our cross-country journey was the Badlands.

We did a few short hikes around the park and were able to see a lot of it. We were so thankful for our car's air conditioning between hikes! The best hike was the Notch trail which was only about a mile long but which included climbing a rope ladder up a steep incline. Here are two photos from that hike:

The Notch trail takes you through these incredible rock formations, up the side of one, and then to the edge of a cliff where you can see across the Badlands.

This was one of my favorite areas of the park. The rocks were not only red but also orange and yellow, and the formations were more round and hilly than the rest of the park. We climbed to the top of a few of these as the day was coming to a close and the air was cooling off a bit.

We spent the night at the campground in the park and it was HOT. The views were incredible!

Thus began our road trip and our new life adventure!
PS: We went horseback riding the next day - it was Kyle's first time ever on a horse!
